Biography

Manel Vijitha Fernando is a Sri Lankan author who writes and translates books for the benefit of her readers in Sri Lanka and beyond. Her first translation "බ්‍රිජට්ගේ දිරිය", a translation of “When the road ends” containing adventures of a motorcycle drive around the world of Dylan Samarawickrama, a Sri Lankan living in Switzerland, which captured many readers.

Her children’s writing captures the wonder, imagination, and everyday adventures of childhood. With a growing collection of books published from 2015 onwards, she brings to life stories that reflect the rhythms of Sri Lankan culture while speaking to young readers everywhere.

Her works, showcase her gift for blending warmth, gentle life lessons, and playful storytelling. Through her books, she hopes to nurture curiosity, kindness, and a lifelong love of reading in children both in Sri Lanka and across the world.

මානෙල් විජිතා ප්‍රනාන්දු යනු ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සහ ඉන් ඔබ්බට සිටින තම පාඨකයන්ගේ ප්‍රයෝජනය සඳහා පොත් ලියන හා පරිවර්තනය කරන ශ්‍රී ලාංකික කතුවරියකි. ඇයගේ පළමු පරිවර්තනය වන බ්‍රිජට්ගේ දිරිය, ස්විට්සර්ලන්තයේ වෙසෙන ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයෙකු වන ඩිලන් සමරවික්‍රමගේ ලොව පුරා යතුරුපැදි ධාවනයක වික්‍රමාන්විතයන් අඩංගු “When the road ends” හි පරිවර්තනයකි. එය බොහෝ පාඨකයින් ආකර්ෂණය කර ගත්තේය.

ඇගේ ළමා පොත්, ළමා කාලයේ ආශ්චර්යය, පරිකල්පනය සහ එදිනෙදා වික්‍රමාන්විතයන් ග්‍රහණය කරයි. 2015 සිට ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරන ලද පොත් එකතුවක් සමඟින්, ඇය සෑම තැනකම ළමා පාඨකයින් අමතන අතරම ශ්‍රී ලාංකික සංස්කෘතියේ රිද්මයන් පිළිබිඹු කරයි. ඇගේ උණුසුම් බස් වහර තුළින් ලියවෙන ළමා කතන්දර තුළ සියුම් ලෙසින් යහපත් ජීවන දර්ශනයක් ළමා සිතට මුසු කිරීමේ ඇයගේ කුසලතාව ප්‍රදර්ශනය කරයි. ඇගේ පොත් හරහා, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සහ ලොව පුරා සිටින දරුවන් තුළ කුතුහලය, කරුණාව, දයාව යන සංකල්ප ඇති කිරීම සහ කියවීම පිළිබඳව ජීවිත කාලය පුරාම රැඳෙන කැමැත්තක් වගා කිරීමට ඇය බලාපොරොත්තු වේ.

Published books

My books, both translations and original works, have been published in Sri Lanka and enjoyed by children and adults alike, and several have been approved by the National Library and Documentation Services Board (NLDSB). In my translations, I strive to preserve the whimsy and cultural richness of the original stories; in my own writing, I aim to open new worlds to my readers.
